Project - Residual Soil

Mid 2018, a number of my photographs are part of an exhibition in Mechelen. The Residual Soil project presented here is my graduation project at IKA (Instituut voor Kunst en Ambacht).

A number of other photographs taken at the same places in the western part of Germany are shown on this website. The text accompanying the exhibition is mentioned below.

Layer after layer, to the deepest point of Europe. Controversial scars full of contrasts, machines are carving out the coal. Sometimes invisible, but thousands of traces betray a presence. Sand is separated from coil. Somewhere at the end of the conveyor belt, a coal plant is on-duty 24 hours 7 days a week. The rest is collateral damage: residual soil.

This website is a reaction to the very enthusiastic feedback I got from most of the visitors.

Thanks a lot.
